Ansgar center for the aged, Reekamp 49-51, D-22415 Hamburg-Langenhorn
At the northern periphery of Hamburg, where the city becomes wide and green, right at the corner of Reekamp and Woerdenmoorweg is where the Ansgar center for the aged is located. For many years it has
been linked to the evangelic-lutheran parish Ansgar and is now the only clerical center for the aged in Langenhorn.
Today the center for the aged belongs to the “Diakoniestiftung Alt-Hamburg”. The board of the Diakoniestiftung consists of priest Ulrich Heidenreich (presiding), Dr. Claus Lau (vice president), Tassilo
Braune, Horst-Diether Hensen, minister of the church Wilfried Kruse, Hannsjoerg Mueller and Peter Stautz. Lukas Kock is the managing director.
Manager of the center for the aged is Wolfgang Grunwald.
The leitmotif of the center’s work is to always keep in mind the individual needs of the inhabitants, to combine as much freedom as possible with as much help as needed: There are no visiting hours to pay
attention to. The free choice of the trusted physician is one of our principles as well as the great variety of occupational therapies and sports, completed by regular excursions and other weekly events.
These offers are meant to avoid social isolation of the inhabitants, which often is caused by the vanishing of social links, that lasted many decades. The “Suetterlinstube” was born as one of these offers.
The cooperation with relatives of the inhabitants is very important to the work of the superiors and employees, since we believe that the situation and the quality of life of our inhabitants can be improved by the
participation of their family members.
