The Suetterlinstube in the Foerderverein (supporting association) of the Ansgar center for the aged
We, a group of retirees, aged
between 65 and 95 years, from Northern Germany,
mostly Hamburg, belong to the last generation, who
learned the original German handwriting (e.g.
Suetterlin) in school. You won’t find this skill
very often in the younger generation.
You inheritated old certificates
or some of your granny’s loveletters, that are
written in old German script, but cannot read them?
We could help you by transcribing them in the modern
Latin script..
In 1992, we became official:
“Suetterlinstube” was foundes and is located at ther
Ansgar Center in Hamburg-Langenhorn. We still are
able to share our knowledge with younger people.
We offer
the translation of texts, written in old German
handwriting (diaries, letters and documents of
ancestors) into modern Latin writing as a free
service. We work according to the best of our
knowledge. Nevertheless we we cannot guarantee every
translation to be correct to the last detail
(especially if we have to deal with names and/or
poor handwriting).
The
project is supported by the Foerderverein
(supporting association) of the Ansgar center. The
Foerderverein receives donations from grateful
people, who requested and obtained translation
services.
The Foerderverein is recognised
as a charitable, non-profit-organisation. Any
contribution to the Foerderverein is tax deductible
in Germany.
Due to our homepage and references of other
institutions we have requests from all over Germany,
and even from the USA (e.g. from descendants of
German immigrants and Jewish refugees).
TV stations, radio stations and
print media (regional and national) reported about
our project. Public honours followed.
